Biography

William H. McRaven is a retired United States Navy four-star admiral who served as the ninth commander of the United States Special Operations Command. He is best known for his #1 New York Times bestseller "Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life...And Maybe the World," based on his viral 2014 commencement speech at the University of Texas at Austin. With over 37 years of military service, McRaven has led at every level within the special operations community, including assignments with the Naval Special Warfare Development Group and as commander of Joint Special Operations Command. He also served as chancellor of The University of Texas System from 2015 to 2018. McRaven holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin and a master's degree from the Naval Postgraduate School. A respected voice on leadership and national security, he continues to inspire audiences worldwide with his practical wisdom and commitment to service. McRaven resides in Texas with his wife, Georgeann, and is dedicated to supporting veteran causes through his involvement with the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.
