Tony Hsieh (1973-2020) was an entrepreneur and venture capitalist best known as the CEO of Zappos, the online shoe and clothing retailer. He led the company from 1999 until his retirement in 2020, pioneering innovative corporate culture and customer service strategies that earned Zappos widespread acclaim.
Hsieh's 2010 book "Delivering Happiness" chronicled his entrepreneurial journey and philosophy for creating engaged workforces and delighted customers. The bestseller outlined his principles for cultivating happiness through perceived control, progress, connectedness, and vision.
Prior to Zappos, he co-founded the internet advertising network LinkExchange, which he sold to Microsoft in 1998 for $265 million.
After retiring from Zappos, Hsieh tragically passed away in November 2020 from injuries sustained in a house fire while visiting family. The Harvard graduate resided in Las Vegas, where he spearheaded revitalization efforts downtown through his $350 million "Downtown Project" investment.
An avid poker player, Hsieh embraced adventure and lived life to the fullest.
