Nicolas Darvas (1920-1977) was a Hungarian-born dancer, self-taught investor, and author best known for his book "How I Made $2,000,000 in the Stock Market." Trained as an economist at the University of Budapest, Darvas fled Hungary in 1943 during World War II. He later formed a successful dance duo with his half-sister, touring internationally. While traveling, Darvas developed a keen interest in the stock market, creating his innovative "Box Theory" trading strategy. Using only weekly editions of Barron's and telegrams to his broker, he claimed to have turned $36,000 into over $2 million during the 1957-58 bull market. Darvas's unconventional approach combined technical analysis with a focus on emerging industries and high-growth potential stocks. His success story, though controversial, inspired many investors and led to several more books on investing and success. Beyond finance, Darvas also explored ventures in fashion, theater production, and real estate.
