Synopsis

“Working Backwards” is an essential guide for business leaders, entrepreneurs, and managers who want to understand and apply Amazon’s proven methods for success. This book offers unprecedented access to the inner workings of one of the world’s most innovative companies, written by two former Amazon executives with decades of combined experience.

Colin Bryar and Bill Carr take readers on a journey through Amazon’s unique culture, revealing the principles and practices that have driven the company’s extraordinary growth and success. From the famous “two-pizza teams” to the “Day 1” mentality, the authors explain how Amazon’s approach to leadership, decision-making, and innovation can be applied to organizations of any size or industry.

Readers will learn:

• How Amazon’s leadership principles guide every aspect of the company’s operations
• The secrets behind Amazon’s highly effective hiring and talent development processes
• Why Amazon uses written narratives instead of PowerPoint presentations for better communication
• How the “working backwards” method leads to ground-breaking innovations
• The importance of focusing on controllable input metrics rather than outputs

The book is filled with real-world examples and anecdotes from the authors’ time at Amazon, providing valuable context and insights into how these principles work in practice. Readers will come away with a clear understanding of how to implement Amazon’s methods in their own organizations, as well as the potential challenges and pitfalls to avoid.

“Working Backwards” is more than just a book about Amazon – it’s a blueprint for building a successful, customer-focused organization in the digital age. Whether you’re running a startup or leading a Fortune 500 company, the lessons in this book will help you transform your approach to business and achieve extraordinary results.

Rather like a potted business school case-study, this book gives us the story as it developed at the time – and that is probably worth the cover price of the book in itself
