Author biography
Jack Welch was a legendary business executive and author who served as Chairman and CEO of General Electric (GE) from 1981 to 2001. During his tenure, he transformed GE into one of the world’s most valuable companies, increasing its market value from $12 billion to $410 billion. Welch’s innovative management techniques, including the controversial “rank and yank” system, earned him the nickname “Neutron Jack”.
After retiring from GE, Welch became a sought-after business consultant and public speaker. He authored several bestselling books, including his autobiography “Jack: Straight from the Gut” and “Winning,” which became a #1 Wall Street Journal and international bestseller. Welch also co-wrote business columns with his wife Suzy for various publications and launched the Jack Welch Management Institute at Strayer University.
Born in Peabody, Massachusetts, Welch earned his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois. He was named “Manager of the Century” by Fortune magazine in 2000. Welch passed away on March 1, 2020, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the business world.
