Book description

“The Go-Getter” is a motivational parable that follows the journey of Bill Peck, a disabled World War I veteran seeking employment at Ricks Logging & Lumbering Company. Despite his physical limitations, Peck demonstrates unwavering determination and self-belief, convincing the retired owner, Cappy Ricks, to give him a chance.

The story unfolds as Peck faces numerous challenges in his new role, consistently proving his worth and exceeding expectations. To test Peck’s true potential, Cappy Ricks devises the ultimate challenge: the quest for a specific blue vase.

Peck is given just five hours to locate and deliver this elusive vase before Cappy’s train departs at 8 pm. The task seems nearly impossible, but Peck approaches it with his signature motto: “It shall be done”. He encounters numerous obstacles, including a closed shop where he finally spots the vase, but refuses to give up.

Through-out his pursuit, Peck demonstrates key qualities of a true go-getter:

  • Unwavering self-belief
  • Fierce determination
  • Refusal to accept “no” for an answer
  • Creative problem-solving
  • Persistence in the face of adversity

The story serves as a powerful illustration of how attitude, perseverance, and initiative can overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. It emphasizes the importance of taking control of one’s career and seizing opportunities, even when the path forward is unclear.
