Robert L. Caslen Jr. is a retired United States Army lieutenant general and former superintendent of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He co-authored "The Character Edge: Leading and Winning with Integrity" with Michael D. Matthews, drawing on his extensive military leadership experience and academic expertise. Caslen served in the Army for 43 years, including combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, and held various high-ranking positions such as Chief of the Office of Security Cooperation in Iraq. As West Point's 59th superintendent from 2013 to 2018, he focused on developing cadets' character and leadership skills. Caslen later served as president of the University of South Carolina from 2019 to 2021. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his commitment to ethical leadership and character development in both military and academic settings.
