Author biography

Angela Duckworth is a renowned psychologist and professor at the University of Pennsylvania, where she studies grit and self-control. She is the Rosa Lee and Egbert Chang Professor of Psychology and co-founder of Character Lab, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing scientific insights that help children thrive. Duckworth’s groundbreaking research on non-IQ competencies has garnered widespread recognition, including a MacArthur Fellowship in 2013.

Prior to her academic career, Duckworth founded a summer school for underserved children and worked as a McKinsey management consultant1. She also taught math and science in public schools across New York City, San Francisco, and Philadelphia. Duckworth’s diverse experiences have informed her research on the role of grit and self-control in educational achievement.

Duckworth’s TED talk on grit is among the most viewed of all time, and her book “Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance” became a #1 New York Times bestseller. She continues to share her insights as the co-host of the podcast “No Stupid Questions” and has advised various organizations, including the World Bank, NBA and NFL teams, and Fortune 500 CEOs.
