Nancy Levit is a distinguished legal scholar and educator, currently serving as Associate Dean for Faculty and Curators’ Professor of Law at the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law. Renowned for her expertise in legal education, professional satisfaction, and feminist legal theory, Levit has authored and co-authored several influential books, including The Happy Lawyer, The Good Lawyer, Feminist Legal Theory, and Jurisprudence—Classical and Contemporary. She holds a B.A. with highest honors from Bates College and a J.D. from the University of Kansas, where she was an editor on the Law Review and received multiple academic distinctions such as Order of the Coif and Phi Beta Kappa.

Levit’s career spans both academia and legal practice, including work as a trial attorney and federal law clerk, as well as pro bono service in criminal and death penalty cases. Her research draws on psychology, neuroscience, and sociology to address lawyer well-being and satisfaction, offering practical strategies for thriving in the legal profession. She has received numerous accolades, including the N.T. Veatch Award for distinguished research and the Missouri Governor’s Award for teaching excellence, and has been voted Outstanding Professor of the Year five times by her students.
