Jason Knight is a leading wilderness survival expert, wildlife biologist, and co-founder of Alderleaf Wilderness College, where he has taught nature and survival skills for over twenty-five years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Ecology & Environmental Education from The Evergreen State College and is certified as a Senior Tracker through CyberTracker Conservation International. Knight has worked with conservation organizations, government agencies, and private sector clients, including the US Forest Service, the Seattle Mountaineers, and the cast of the award-winning film Captain Fantastic. He has also served as a wilderness skills consultant for the Discovery Channel and has been featured on NPR.

Knight’s passion for wilderness education began early in his career, managing cougar studies for the Washington State Department of Fish & Wildlife and assisting with gray wolf research in Idaho. His expertise extends to permaculture, wildlife tracking, and primitive skills, inspiring him to author The Essential Skills of Wilderness Survival, a comprehensive guide praised for its clear, practical advice and accessible approach for all skill levels.

When not teaching or writing, Knight enjoys construction projects on the campus farm, spending time with his family, and playing guitar. He currently resides in Washington State, where he continues to help people build confidence and resilience in the outdoors.
