Benjamin Graham was a British-born American economist, investor, and professor widely regarded as the "father of value investing." He graduated from Columbia University at age 20 and began his Wall Street career shortly after. Graham co-authored the seminal book "Security Analysis" (1934) with David Dodd, which laid the groundwork for fundamental stock analysis. His 1949 book "The Intelligent Investor" is considered a classic in the field of value investing and has influenced generations of investors, including Warren Buffett.
Graham taught at Columbia Business School for many years, where he mentored numerous successful investors. He developed the concepts of intrinsic value and margin of safety, which became cornerstones of value investing. Throughout his career, Graham ran successful investment partnerships and mutual funds, demonstrating the practical application of his theories.
Beyond investing, Graham held several U.S. patents, including one for an improved slide rule. He was also a polyglot, fluent in at least seven languages, and translated literary works in his spare time. Graham passed away in 1976, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of finance and investment.
