Andrew S. Grove was a Hungarian-American businessman and engineer who served as the third CEO of Intel Corporation. Born András István Gróf in Budapest in 1936, Grove escaped Hungary during the 1956 revolution and immigrated to the United States. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the City College of New York and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. Grove joined Intel in 1968 as its third employee and played a crucial role in transforming the company into the world's largest semiconductor manufacturer. Under his leadership as CEO from 1987 to 1998, Intel's market capitalization grew from $4 billion to $197 billion. Grove authored several influential books, including "Only the Paranoid Survive," which explored business strategy in the face of technological change. Known as the "guy who drove the growth phase" of Silicon Valley, Grove's work at Intel and his writings significantly impacted the global electronics industry. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2000 and became a contributor to foundations sponsoring research for a cure. Grove passed away on March 21, 2016, at the age of 79.
