David J. Schwartz (1927-1987) was an American motivational writer, coach, and professor best known for his bestselling book “The Magic of Thinking Big.” He earned his BS from the University of Nebraska and his MA and PhD from Ohio State University. As a professor at Georgia State University, Schwartz chaired the marketing department and led the Consumer Finance program, establishing himself as a leading authority on motivation.

In 1959, Schwartz published “The Magic of Thinking Big,” which became a seminal work in the self-help genre, selling over 6 million copies. The book’s enduring popularity stems from its practical advice on setting high goals, thinking positively, and changing thought patterns to achieve success.

Schwartz’s expertise in motivation led him to found Creative Educational Services Inc., a consultancy firm focused on leadership development. His work as a self-help coach and life strategist influenced countless individuals, including notable figures like Lou Holtz.

Beyond his writing and coaching, Schwartz’s impact on education continues through a scholarship awarded in his honor at Georgia State University. He resided in Atlanta, Georgia, where he balanced his academic career with his passion for helping others unlock their potential.
